Warriors dazzle in 129-115 win vs. Suns

by Ravi - posted Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Monta EllisThe Warriors have arrived and the rest of the NBA better take notice.

Granted, the team is still under .500, but after their sizzling
performance over the red-hot Phoenix Suns (they came into the game
riding an eight game winning streak), we all have reason to think that
the Dubs are for real.

After a blistering 45 point 1st quarter that saw the Suns go big to
try to change the Warriors tempo, the Dubs were not just content to
let PHX back in the game — as they allowed opponents to do in their
losses earlier this season.

The Warriors’ relentless, passionate display at the Oracle was NBA
basketball at its finest – and it’s a shame more people didn’t get a
chance to enjoy it.

On this rendition of Warriorscast (download - mp3), Adam Lauridsen of the San Jose
Mercury News
and I try to contain our irrational exuberance over the
W’s performance against the Suns. We also discuss Stephen Jackson’s
impact on the team, review the road trip at length and laud Monta for
his back to back 31 point games.

Here’s some postgame reaction from:

Don Nelson

Andris Biedrins

Mickael Pietrus

Monta Ellis

Al Harrington

Stephen Jackson

Baron Davis

Games against the Kings and Rockets are on the docket this week — can
they keep this pace up? We’ll find out just how good this team really is very soon.

Jack is back & the W’s complete their best roadie since 1978

The Warriors' Azubuike
Just 10 days ago, the Warriors were on the ropes.

The team started 0-6, the defensive lapses were grating even to Nellie
and we all wondered whether our optimism for this season was
unfounded.

To our delight though, the Warriors turned up the intensity, starting
with their first win of the season at home against the Clips. Stephen
Jackson rejoined the team, showed why he’s a co-captain and the team
responded in kind. The Dubs stormed past the Raptors, the awful
Knicks, the Wizards without Gilbert and won the last game of the trip
in dramatic fashion over the scrappy 76ers.

The Celtics got the best of them, but it was a valuable lesson for
this young team – something we’ll address in our next podcast.

In this edition of Warriorscast (download - mp3), taped after a disheartening loss at home to the Pistons, Adam Lauridsen of the San Jose
Mercury News
and I harp on what it will take for the W’s to be successful on the road,
why we believe Baron needs to take a page out of Steve Nash’s
playbook, and we send global shout-outs to our friends listening in
Canada and Australia.

Believe This - Warriors 0-5 to Start Season

by Ravi - posted Monday, November 12th, 2007

Warriors vs. MavsAll the hope, promise and optimism built up over the off-season in
anticipation for the Warriors has all but evaporated. During the first
two weeks of the season, the team at times has looked listless, and
lacked the spark that won over a lot of fans during their incredible
summer playoff run.

Where’s the frequency, Kenneth…or Baron, I should say?!

In our latest edition of Warriorscast (download - mp3), Adam Lauridsen of the San Jose
Mercury News
and I discuss why the W’s have yet to break the seal,
Baron Davis’ play and why Nellie may want to reconsider using zone as
a method to stop the opposition.

It’s not all bad. The team does have some bright spots to mention -
Kelenna Azubuike is one prominent example. It could be a while,
though, before they get to .500, and they better get a move on, since
the West, as usual, is no joke.

Check out our post-Cavs game interviews with:

Don Nelson

Andris Biedrins

Brandan Wright

Matt Barnes

Baron Davis

Time to get a W, gentlemen, please.

Jazz Beatdown The Warriors - Again

by Ravi - posted Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Baron DavisIt’s fair to say that this season is the most anticipated one since the year the Dubs obtained that big man from Michigan (I don’t seem to recall his name right now - sorry). Perhaps I’ve been overly optimistic to think the team would gel from the start and run off 20 in a row to start the season.

After a deflating 117-96 loss to the Jazz on opening night, that’s certainly not going to happen. The Jazz looked like the veteran, disciplined, cohesive team they are, and the Warriors have some work to do.

In our season opening edition of Warriorscast, Adam Lauridsen of the San Jose Mercury News and I discuss (download episode - mp3) the good, bad and ugly from the 1st game of the year.

Also, as we’ve been mentioning through the summer, we’ve got access to the team like no other, perhaps with the exception of Nellie himself.

Check out our aftermath interviews with:

Baron Davis

Monta Ellis

Andris Biedrins

Kelenna Azubuike

Mickael Pietrus

They won’t always sound this down - we hope.

Give us your thoughts via email (mailbag@warriorscast.com) or on our new call-in line - (415) 691-6185.

We’ll see if they can bounce back against the Clip Joint Friday and in their rematch versus the Jazz in Utah this weekend.

The Countdown to Opening Night is On!

by Ravi - posted Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Kelenna AzubuikeI think I speak for all of us Warriors aficionados when I say - let’s
get the season started already! The preseason just tipped off and the
squad looked mighty impressive against the hapless Lakers. The Dubs
pulled it out 111-110 (though it was pretty much a rout throughout),
behind a clutch jumper with 0.3 left by one of the new guys on the
squad, Troy Hudson. He looked great, as did Patrick O’Bryant
(seriously!) and Kelenna Azubuike.

In this preseason edition of Warriorscast (download episode - mp3), Adam and I break down the new roster, some of the season matchups, Nellie’s contract, Stephen
Jackson’s ‘dream’ workout and a trip down memory lane featuring Alton
Lister and Joe Barry Carroll.

Enjoy and hit us up via email at mailbag@warriorscast.com or on our new call-in line - (415) 691-6185. Go W’s!
